ADVENT || DAY 5 || GOD OF PEACE
I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world. John 16:33 NLT
Remember arguing with your friends about whose Dad was the strongest? “My Dad can beat up your Dad” were the words of young boys trying to prove themselves to others. But we actually believed it. When I was young I thought my Dad was the strongest man alive. He was certainly stronger than me. I felt safe and protected with him. I know many have had very hurtful relationships with their Father’s and so this idea may be difficult for some to understand.
In John 16:33 Jesus shows Himself to be a strong Father whose words bring peace and comfort. He reminds us of what He has done. Have you experienced Jesus in this way? Has he been your peace and comfort? In what ways have you seen Him in work in your life?
This is what I know: My peace, confidence, assurance and hope stands on the strength of God’s name and that He did the hardest thing, giving His life. Jesus came to earth, God became man, and the direct result of that act was He overcame the power of this world to destroy, distract, and cause anxiety. Talk about a strong Daddy who is able to fight for His kids and protect us from all harm. It doesn’t mean bad things won’t happen to me, but I know even in the midst of trials, my Father in heaven is strong enough to give me peace and comfort through whatever I face.
