Starting October 15th, our brand new service times will be Sundays only at 8:15am, 9:45am, 11:15am, and 5:30pm. The last Saturday night service will be October 7th.
A NOTE FROM PASTOR STEVE
Proverbs 15:22 reminds us, “Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.”
Over 1,000 people participated during last month’s service time survey. I wanted to take a moment and thank our church family for your candid feedback and encouraging comments. It was very helpful in assessing our current service times and making changes to make more room. Thank you so much for your overwhelming support in helping us enable our staff to have a Sabbath on Saturdays. It means the world.
These changes reflect our heartfelt prayers, your collective counsel, and the wisdom of our church Council. The change in our service times also reflect a strategic move to make room for the people in our community God is calling us to reach.
We are here to extend the life and love of Jesus to our world. Our services are not the only way, but are an incredible tool used for this purpose. I’m so excited to partner with you in this season for this great mission God has given us.
Thanks for who you are and for sharing in this exciting journey with me!
HOW CAN I HELP?
Many of you have asked this question! Here are a few ways you can help:
Choose a new service time that fits your schedule.
Invite others to come with you to this service; you are still the best way for someone to connect with Jesus! Use the services as a tool, and be their guide.
Volunteer – join the ranks of those serving in the church. A bigger place can sometimes give the impression we’ve got it all covered. This isn’t true! One of the greatest blessings today is finding a place to give back, to use your gifts for God, to connect, and to grow. There are many opportunities from children and youth services, first impressions and hospitality teams, tech and operations teams, you name it! A good rule of thumb – attend one service, serve at another.
We received over 1,000 responses to the survey, thank you!
The survey revealed most people choosing a Sunday morning service time would simply move to 8:30am or 10:00am, with an indication 11:30am was a bit late for some.
Based on the results of the survey, the team feels we have the best chance of caring well for the Westside family while making room for more people to meet Jesus by adjusting the Sunday morning times 15-minutes earlier than those listed in the survey.
The survey revealed overwhelming support for moving Saturday night service to Sunday night. Many noted the benefit to staff; many noted a preference for Sunday night over Saturday night.
Starting on the weekend of October 15th, our service times will be Sundays at 8:15am, 9:45am, 11:15am, and 5:30pm.
We are excited about this new schedule and believe it will help us more effectively extend the life and love of Jesus in central Oregon. We also recognize the change will require some flexibility as we adjust to a new rhythm.
Current Saturday night service—while the response to moving Saturday night to Sunday night was overwhelmingly positive, a few mentioned Sunday nights would not work for them. We welcome the chance to discuss alternative options with any in this group.
Current 8am Chapel Service—we heard from many in this service that you value a smaller, more intimate setting and lower worship volume levels. We are committed to running the new 8:15am service at a lower volume to help accommodate a more intimate feel. If we work together, we believe we can create a worship environment that addresses these desires while making room for this service to grow to its full potential.
Youth—Middle and High school students will have a dedicated youth service every Wednesday night. Small groups are available for this age group throughout the week. On Sundays, we will provide middle and high school programming during the 9:45am and 11:15am services.
Westside Kid’s ministry will be provided during all Sunday services.
Serving opportunities—the change in service times will make room for more people to make Westside home. This will call more of us to serve first time guests and new family members through volunteer teams like First Impressions, Kid’s and Youth Ministry, Parking, Tech Teams, Prayer Teams, etc. We are asking everyone who calls Westside their home to worship one service and serve during another at least once a month (at this level, all of our teams would be more than fully staffed at every service).
We recognize change can be both exciting and difficult. As we adjust service times, we are committed to caring well for the Westside family while fulfilling our mission as a church.
As leadership, we pray, seek wise counsel, pray, discuss, pray, and then make the best decisions possible based on input and discernment of what God is saying. This is a faith journey, not an exact science. As we launch new times, we will assess and keep you updated on progress. We welcome your input along the way.
God cares deeply about Bend and Central Oregon. He has commissioned us to reach everyone in our community. While this often comes with change and growing pains, there is nothing more exciting than thinking about making room for an additional 800 people without spending a dime on new buildings or adding another service. Thank you for partnering with us as we work together to reach our community!
