Leader Advance 2017

“You can live and lead small, live and lead safe, or you can pursue a grander vision.”

-Bill Hybels

Each of us is uniquely gifted and positioned to impact those that God has placed in our sphere of influence. God has called us to lead; to lead believers and those in the marketplace alike. People are hungry for a leader worth following. One that leads in everyday life with authority, wisdom, and vision.

In the Westside community of faith, we feel that God has called us to be those sort of leaders, and so we gathered. At the beginning of May, hundreds of leaders gathered for our annual Leader Advance at the historic Tower Theater in downtown Bend. We gathered with a desire to steward the gifts, talents and influence that God has entrusted to us for our families, community and world.

To open the door to the God’s inspiration and anointing,  we started with a heart of worship led by our Westside Worship team. It was a powerful time to pause in God’s presence and be refreshed. We sensed that God was calling us in this gathering and in our daily lives to a Secret Place with Him. As leaders, we must live and pour out of the fullness that comes from time spent in His presence.

Once the environment was set through worship we dove into inspirational teachings from a variety of speakers. Brene Brown, a well known scholar, author and public speaker, challenged us to be vulnerable and consider the narrative that our lives are writing. Pastor Steve shared a timely word on sabbath and a panel of community leaders encouraged us to develop healthy habits of good leaders such as boundaries and rest.

Each year Leader Advance offers us the opportunity to grow personally so that we can be healthy people anointed to influence a hurting world. This year was no exception. Our community is always strengthened when we gather. We gathered in unity. We gathered with hearts to grow and mature. We gathered to step into the callings that God has placed on each of us. It truly was a powerful time.

Alongside the voices singing and hands raised in our weekend gatherings, there is a unique expression of adoration and connection happening that may go unseen. This is the deaf community that comes together every 9:45am service to experience Jesus in authentic ways. We are so thankful that God allows us to be unified as one family in this beautiful community of believers. God is doing incredible things in the lives of our deaf brothers and sisters and we celebrate with them.
