Vacation Bible School 2018

Vacation Bible School 2018

It’s that time of year again where the halls of Westside echo with the sound of wiggly, boisterous kiddos discovering the joy, fun, and life-giving love found only in Jesus. As always, our week of Vacation Bible School was jam-packed with summertime activities, loads of laughter, active worship, and wildly entertaining teachings on truths from God’s Word. This year 110 amazing volunteers hosted 320 kids within our walls.

From games to crafts to building lasting friendships, each moment with these precious littles demonstrated the value and love that Jesus feels towards them. When Jesus walked the earth, He took time for the least of these. He welcomed little children onto His knee and said that the Kingdom belonged to them. As Jesus took notice of children, He set an example for us to follow.

Children come to Jesus freely because he calls them. They come to Him in a place of simple faith. Trusting, open and ready. Children are incredibly valuable and important to us here at Westside. We can do no less than what Jesus did. We value their innocence, trust and openness and know that from an early age they can step into a personal faith relationship with Jesus.” -Joanie Morelock, Westside Kids Director

We rejoice that 127 kids made decisions to respond to Jesus’ invitation to build a lasting relationship with Him during VBS this year. Each decision represents a heart, a family, and a community that has the potential to be forever changed by that one, faith-filled choice. We treasure these times where God swings wide the doors of influence in the next generation. We trust that God will continue to bless and strengthen these little ones in ways that will absolutely echo into eternity.

Story

After 27 years as a Deputy Marshall, Jerry Butler believed that retirement just meant a reassignment to something special that God had planned. A simple “yes,” to serving in the nursery at his church has turned into a beautiful legacy impacting more lives than Jerry could have imagined. Jerry has been rocking fussy babies, blowing bubbles, and changing diapers in the name of Jesus for a total of 40 plus years. His life of faithfulness is a stunning example of what God can do with a humble heart surrendered to His calling. We are so thankful for people like Jerry who serve Westside families and sow seeds into the next generation.
