The world is so noisy. It constantly calls out to us with urgent invitations to put our trust in anything other than Jesus. “Come, this expert can help you!” “Look, this problem is too big.” Yet, Jesus remains our hope. Let us continue fix our attention on Him first and foremost.
Ephesians 1:17-18 NIV
I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know Him better. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which He has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in His holy people.
Prayer + Reflection
1. Consider the ways you are distracted, and return your attention to Jesus.
2. Consider situations in your community that seem hopeless, and ask Jesus to intervene.
3. Consider the ways that our churches put trust in things other than Jesus, and ask for the Lord’s forgiveness.
Build a family obstacle course! Take turns making your way through the course before regrouping as a family. Similar to the obstacle course, life will bring challenges and hurdles that can distract us from living for Jesus. Can you think of ways we might be distracted? There’s good news! God gives us the gift of the Holy Spirit. Read Matthew 6:33-34. What does it look like for us to seek God first?
