Updates from Westside ministries

Beginning September 20th, we’re starting to have Home Churches gather together in the building during the 8:30am service. Currently, we’re only able to have 100 people gather at a time. With those limits,  each Home Church will only be able to attend in-person once per month.

At this time, the only way to join us on a Sunday morning in-person is to be a part of a Home Church. Invitations and instructions to register will come from your Home Church leaders.

To join, host, or register your existing Home Church, click the applicable link below.

Alright, young adults! The time has come. We will restart weekly services on Tuesday nights starting on September 22nd. These services will include mask requirements and socially distanced seating so that we can continue to be as safe as possible as we gather again. The doors will open at 6:45 and service will start at 7:00 in the main worship center. We’re pumped to worship with you again.

Alright, High school and Jr. High – Westside Youth is back. We’re having our fall kickoff on September 23rd followed by another service on October 21st. Both events have limited spots available, so make sure that you register here. In between those services, keep an eye on our social media pages for mid-week events that will include things like hiking, coffee hangouts and BBQ’s. We’re stoked to have you back!…By the way, we’re giving away airpods on September 23. Check out our instagram for details.

Videos for each age groupo will be available at westsidechurch.org/kids on Sunday, August 23rd! Remember there will be individual worship & teaching videos for Preschoolers ages 2-5, Kindergarteners-3rd Grade and Preteens 4th-5th Grade. We’re so excited to share this with our Westside Kids!

Hey, Westside Youth and parents! We wanted to take a moment and update you on the status of your gatherings. We have some good news! Regular gatherings for youth will begin again in mid-September. Of course, we will be taking every necessary action to ensure that our environments are safe, so this will require pre-registering for services to avoid overcrowding our rooms.

Bible Point: Jesus’ Power Helps Us Do Hard Things.

Bible Story: Ananias Helps Saul – Acts 9:1-19

Bible Verse: “For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.” Philippians 4:13

Hi everyone. I wanted to give you an update on our plans for reopening the building for church services. Recently I visited a friend’s church in California who has been meeting in person for several weeks. It was great to worship with other people and feel the energy of the church gathered together. We miss it. We miss you.

Every week the Leadership is evaluating and assessing the viability of meeting. We feel it’s not the right time at this moment, but we are actively rearranging our meeting spaces to accommodate for social distancing and the other guidelines needed. Our plan right now is to roll out a few gatherings of 100 or so later this fall, beginning with leaders and home churches, people who are serving, and continue from there.

In the meantime, our community needs us. With schools not meeting in person, I want to challenge our home churches and every Westsider, to look for ways to help families around you, in your neighborhood, or from work. Maybe it’s providing daycare once a week or group learning opportunities. Our city needs us, not just to meet on a Sunday but to meet their needs on a Monday. So let’s do what we can to show them we love them, we care for them, and we are here for them. westsidechurch.org/outreach

If you’re not in a home church, I encourage you to start one or find one on our website. Nobody needs to walk alone. Gathering in small groups all over our region is one way to receive the connection and community we all desire.

For more information check back here at westsidechurch.org/reopening. We will be updating the church every two to three weeks on our plan to reopen the building.

We love you. We miss seeing you in person. And we are praying every day that Jesus will have his way in our lives, in our church, and in our communities.

Dear Westside Kids Families,

I hope you’re all enjoying summer in Central Oregon even in these most unique times. Please know that you are being covered in prayer my myself, and our Westside Kids Team!

I wanted to let you some really exciting news! We’ll be transitioning to a new Kids Curriculum in the next couple of weeks. Orange Curriculum offers an awesome online media viewing experience for kids of all ages. With an excellent and engaging individual worship & teaching video for Preschooler’s, Kindergarteners-3rd Grade and Preteens 4th-5th Grade.

There will be a brief pause in online viewing for kids (only 1 or 2 Sunday’s) while we make this exciting change. If you’d like to, please go online to Orangekidmin.com and read more about Orange Kids Curriculum. Thank you in advance for your understanding while we make the transition!

Remember that next week August 3rd – 6th at 10AM, Kids Ministry will be offering virtual VBS for kids entering Kindergarten – entering 5th grade. After each day’s showing at 10, the videos will be available to view any time. So pick the right time for you and your kids and go to westsidechurch.org/vbs to watch!

Be checking your email for more information about Orange Kids Curriculum!

Thank you all!

Blessings,
Joanie Morelock

Westside Kids Director

Update: Results from the drive are in! A total of 201 bundles of clothes were created for kids of all ages in our community. Thank you for supporting these children through meeting this vital tangible need.

Families all around us are facing increasing levels of stress and trauma.  Sometimes this results in children experiencing unexpected transitions.  Our heart here at Westside is that every child would have a family to love them—and we are committed to being that family in every way we can.

Our For the City Donation drive this month is focused on meeting an immediate need of children undergoing sudden, traumatic transition. Most often kids are placed in foster care with just the clothing they are wearing when the family crisis occurs. DHS has asked us to create clothing bundles for these boys and girls of all ages to ease that stressful experience.

Watch this video as Melissa Williams, Director of Every Child Central Oregon explains:

If you would like to help with this critical need, please do the following:

  • pick an age (teen sizes are especially in high demand)
  • purchase socks, underwear, pajamas, and outfit that coordinates with that age
  • bundle the items in one bag of any kind
  • you can also purchase individual items to donate, or feel free to work together as a Home Church to create bundles.

All Kids Clothing can then be dropped off at the Westside Church Drop off station on July 14th, from 8:30am to 6:30 pm. Together- we can show love for our city and extend care to a vulnerable child.

We are so proud of our Westside Missionaries to Mexico, Steve & Holly Taft. Relocating to Playa del Carmen in 2010 to establish a Ministry Training Institute, they soon after planted a bilingual Foursquare church.

Casa de Fe (House of Faith) has been a huge blessing to the community throughout the last decade-plus, especially in this past COVID season where many local families were in need of food & supplies.

The Tafts have partnered with fellow Foursquare missionaries Joel & Veronica Arreola to pastor Casa de Fe. We are excited to see both families flourish as they continue growing the church in this new season!

Birthdays are more than just a day to receive presents, they help you to feel special and to know that you matter. But many foster children are likely to receive very few or even no gifts on their birthday.

Our Birthday Club fills this gap, purchasing presents for foster kids and others identified as children in need. We have a beautiful opportunity to make a child’s birthday wishes come true while surrounding parents and foster parents with care and support.

Sounds nice, wish I had that experience with Westside Church. It is really sad that it took a pandemic for the church to reach out. As a long time member I called in 2018 when I was diagnosed with cancer. Explained I was disabled and hadn't been able to get to church for 5 years. Said I had cancer and requested if someone could come pray with me as I went through this. I was told to find a church closer to where I lived, that the church couldn't send someone as far as Redmond; and there is a four - square church in Redmond and to call them. I had been a member of Westside church since 1999. I was not asked if my cancer was terminal, I was not "reached out" to in any way. I got busy with my Chemo and my sister tried reaching out the the church in Redmond. Her call was never responded to. No need to respond to this note. God says if a brother or sister does something to offend you go to them and tell them. God is great, humans are fallible. Perhaps some training to your first line people is in order.

Karan, so sorry to hear this happened to you ! Your response however is much needed and very gracious. Blessings.

Good word neighbor!

We are so excited to announce the release of our brand new worship album: House Sessions. This album is a compilation of worship songs written over the years at Westside as well as songs that our team felt were powerful, timely, and even prophetic as to where we find ourselves at this moment in time as a church.

Our prayer is that this album would bless you, that it would help lead you in the worship of Jesus, and that it would usher you into His presence wherever you find yourself pressing the play button.

Find the album anywhere you stream music (or at https://music.apple.com/us/album/house-sessions/1563241757). Give it a listen today!
